the meant of living

Assalamualaikum and moshi moshi. [one click?] Look, what i want you to do is to understand the passage below ;

It was a hot Monday afternoon. Dr John Knox slung his medical kit across his back and walked to the tiny health centre to attend to the children who greeted them cheerfully. He sat on an empty bed and checked the newborn child admitted for malnutrition. The mother had walked for two days to reach the hospital She looked relieved when the doctor told her that the child was improving.

Dr knox was young, had just turned twenty-eight and was practising in Australia when he decided that he had a mission to fulfil. as a volunteer with Doctors Without Borders, Knox went to serve nine month in Congo. It was a far cry from facilities available in Australia and he had only the equipment that he carried in his shoulder bag. There was also a language barrier but he could speak some portuguese and that helped.

Knox spent the bulk of his time supervising the local nurses. He made sure they washed their hands to prevent infection. There was not even a wash basin in the health centre when he first arrived. There were so many things to see and so many things to see toa nd so many things to change. He was the only doctor in this centre and he had been told to be ready to pull out at any time. Tribal wars broke out easily and everyone's life was in danger. Despite all that, Knox looked upon his work as a priviledge. He had the change to serve people.

Doctors Without Borders was founded by Dr Kouchner and twelve other doctors. Their mission was to send doctors to war or disaster zones. Now more than 2000 volunteers, overwhelmingly Europeans, go abroad in a typical year to help the sick and the dying. Getting access to the victims is often difficult. sometimes the governments do not allow them to see the victims, even though they are starving. Politics create havoc. the dangerous are great.

why do the doctors choose to do this extremely arduous task? there are doctors with a special mission. They d not want to work in air-conditioned and cosy clinics, and deal with rich patients who are worried about their nose or shape of their body. These are doctors who have been dealing with dying AIDS patients, care for federal prisoners and work with patients who have lost all hope and resources. They look for no other reward.

These doctors are incredibly brave. They know taht life is short, very short. Missing out on any of the joys life offers is a tragedy. If our life is being controlled by our fears, we are most certainly cheating ourselves. Courage is the mental muscle that conquers fear. Like all muscles, the more we use them, the stronger they become. courage is not something we are born with, it must be developed. Individuals who fail to develop courage remain confined in mental prisons and face each day in thoughtless activities.

There is, very likely, something you have wanted to do for years; move to another city,start your own business, apply for a better position, serve the poor. Whatever it is, you should do it. Remember, life is not a practice run. This is it. A little courage leads to more.

Observe those poor souls who are without courage. They merely tiptoe though life, hoping they make it safely to death. You and i were never meant to live thet way. Forge into the remainder of your day with an abundance of courage. That is truly the meaning of living!

Okay, thats it, thanks for reading anddd ohh ya, this passage were taken from Booster English; activity book [click?]
